Technology research is used by the propane industry from exploring to improvement of the quality of the fuel. Propane is a fuel that has been much research and is now used in a variety of fields.

Propane Use In The Electrical Field

In the year of 2006, the propane industry made a test on a combination system which was using propane as a fuel in water heaters for the purpose of space heating and cooling. It could also be used for air distribution in housing complexes and for water heating.

It has been found that a system that combines heat with power and has a distributed system of generation can be developed. Such a system would use propane as the fuel to run an internal combustion engine that will supply with the major amount of power while retrieving enough heat to be used in other purposes.

A propane-fueled system can generate about 5-800KW of power that can be utilized to provide electricity to residences and businesses. Recently a propane fueled engine was created that combined a heat and power system that provided power continually for jobs like roasting coffee to packing operations. The system could also capture thermal energy for use in space and water heating.

Propane Use In The Agricultural Field

Propane has many uses in the agriculture industry including:

  • Propane flame is used in poultry farms for sanitizing and controlling growth of pathogens among poultry and others in the farm. This is generally used to protect poultry from avian flu.
  • Propane steam is used to kill weeds that harm the crops in the field. Superheated propane steam is sprayed on the weeds and care is taken that the irrigation system is not harmed or toxicated while killing weeds. This is entirely environment friendly and has been accepted by the Department of National Organic Program as an organic procedure of removing weeds.
  • Used as a fuel in a cotton defoliator as an alternative to commonly used chemicals. Propane heats the air to a temperature of 380 degree Fahrenheit. The air is then passed through a cotton canopy. This process kills the leaves and preserves the cotton effectively. This thermally treated cotton can be harvested just twenty-four hours after processing. This process further helps in killing aphids and silver leaf white fly.
  • Used in farms for drying grain in farms.
  • Used as a fuel in drying systems that dry with the help of heated air.

Propane is easy to store, easy to carry without fear of any risk, and is readily available at almost all places. Almost all of the propane used in the US is for domestic purposes. Triple Diamond Energy Corp. is proud to play an active role in the creation of propane which so many American families and businesses enjoy.
